DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE           15 hours $75.00 ORDER FORM

This course examines the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence. A broad area of topics will contribute to highlighting the problems facing clinicians dealing with this population, as well as offering sound treatment and referral recommendations for clients.

This course will provide both didactic information as well as the opportunity to better understand the concepts and ingredients of a mental status assessment. The training can be of use in developing skills to better assess the mental status of a client, and making appropriate referrals and consultations when indicated.

This course addresses changes in the addicted client profile and the necessity for all addiction setting employees to he more aware of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), tuberculosis (TB), and other related health issues when counseling high risk clients.

OBJECTIVE: Counselor will: heighten understanding of communicable diseases and their implications in addiction settings; gain knowledge about preventative measures for the spread of STDS; differentiate between the different types of hepatitis; understand the proper use of condoms for client education; recognize symptoms associated with tuberculosis for client education.

This training presents a detailed examination of concepts and terms, specific withdrawal syndromes, detoxification protocols, and implications for addiction professionals. It includes alcohol, benzodiazepine and heroin detoxification, and withdrawal presentations.

OBJECTIVE: Counselor will: recall the major risks associated with withdrawal syndromes; understand the difference between the various types of withdrawal syndromes; identify important assessment considerations specific to detoxification and withdrawal; recognize high risk combinations of drugs and alcohol.

This course presents detailed examination of the various drugs of abuse, including cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, opiates, PCP, rohypnol, ketamine hydrochloride, and others. Modes of use, mechanisms of action, and risks are presented for each drug.

OBJECTIVE: Counselor will recall the mechanism of action for the major drugs of abuse; identify the methods of use for common drugs of abuse; recognize the physiological effect caused by common drugs of abuse; understand common street names for frequently abused drugs.

DEFENSE MECHANISMS AND COPING STRATEGIES IN COUNSELING          6 hours $30.00 ORDER FORM

The focus of this training will examine conscious coping strategies and unconscious defense mechanisms as responses to client stress, and their implications in the counseling process. The training will assist professional counselors in the identification of specific maladaptive defense mechanisms, as well as distinguishing healthy coping behaviors exhibited by clients.
